Traditional Chirosfagia Fest in Triantaros

This Sunday (March 3, 2024) the traditional chirosfagia in Triantaros organized by the Association of Apandachou Triantarites took place again this year. Residents and volunteer friends of the village helped in the preparations days before, for the revival of the traditional custom of Tinos. Shortly after 11 in the morning, residents from every region of the island began to arrive at the site of the old municipality of the village. The welcome was followed by appetizers and wine. The pork, of course, had its due, which was offered cooked in various versions: soup, braised with spaghetti and, of course, grilled, just before Chiknopempti. The live orchestra then swung into action to rouse the guests and kick off the glenit with fiddling, dancing and carnival spirit.

Looking carefully back, we move forward. Tradition and customs show the way, so that we don’t get lost. Pork carcasses have always been an important part of the island’s tradition. In the past, a pig was enough to feed the whole family for the whole year. Eating in moderation, using every part of the animal without throwing anything away, sharing and the celebrating and respecting nature and animals were self-evident. This was the real Tinos and still remains for those who sincerely seek for it…
